The Playstation 4 cache temporarily stores files and game data to help games run faster and more efficiently. Occasionally the cache becomes corrupted, partially overwritten or bad. If this happens, it causes the console and the associated games to have connectivity issues, gameplay issues or issues loading files.

Clearing the console cache removes temporary game data and files from the cache memory and creates room for a fresh set to be downloaded. The methods below outline how to clear the cache on your PS4 console. The second method goes an extra step to delete game saves, player profiles, and other game data.

Method 1: Shutting Down The Console

  1. Completely shut down your console.
  2. Once the console is off, disconnect the console from the power source for at least 5 minutes.
  3. Reconnect the power to the console and turn it on.

Method 2: Deleting Game Data

  1. Launch the Settings menu at the top of the dashboard.
  2. Go to Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Delete.
  3. Choose a game to to access the game’s saved data. From here, you can choose items you want to delete from the list of games. You can use the sort or view options to sort the list or view more information about a file.
