Pidage.dll is associated with browser hijack bug which persistently redirects your browser searches and startup page to a rogue search engine called “amisites”. Amisites is a browser hijacker that is bundled with free software that you got from the Internet. Once installed it will set the homepage and default search engine for all installed browsers to http://www.amisites.com. Pidage.dll is usually located at C:\Users\[pc name]\AppData\Roaming\Phezrypadush\pidage.dll and cannot be removed by just deleting it.

You can either get rid of this by scanning your PC with an anti-malware/adware tool, resetting your browser, or uninstallation the bundled applications from your PC and this will all be covered in this article.

Method 1: Scanning with an Anti-malware tool

Antimalware tools like Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes, and Adwcleaner are very effective tools in scanning for and removing browser hijackers. In this method, we’ll be using adwcleaner, which is lightweight and doesn’t require installation and also MalwareBytes.

  1. Download Adwcleaner from here.
  2. Locate the executable in your Download directory and launch it. Accept the UAC prompt when it comes up.
  3. Click on Scan and wait while the software scans the computer for adware and other potentially unwanted software.
  4. After the scan is complete, you should see “amisites” and other malware in the scan results. Click on Clean and then OK to reboot and complete the removal.
  5. You’ll be presented with a list of all the malwares removed by the application after the removal is complete. You can run the scan again just to be sure all the viruses are cleared from your system.

Using Malwarebytes Antivirus

  1. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from here.
  2. Go to the Download location and install MalwareBytes from there.
  3. Go to Scan Tab > Custom Scan. Check all the boxes in the left pane and select your drives on the right pane.
  4. Click on Scan and then Quarantine All after the scan finishes.

Method 2: Resetting Your Browser

This is a less effective method as the bundled application are still present and may change your browser’s default settings but if you want a quick fix, this is the way to go. Here, we assume you’re using Google Chrome. If you’re experiencing this in other browser, you can reset it from the Settings.

  1. Click the 3-dot menu at the upper right of the Google Chrome Window.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page and select Show Advanced Settings. Continue scrolling till you reach the bottom of the page when you find Reset Settings.
  3. Click on Reset settings and then Reset again when the confirmation screen comes up.
  4. Wait while Chrome reloads and comes back up once the reset is done.

Method 3: Uninstalling Unwanted Bundled Applications

You can also go through the recently installed applications on your PC and remove and unusual application you see in there.

  1. Press the Windows Key + R, type appwiz.cpl and then click OK. This takes you to Programs and Features.
  2. Look scroll through the list and search for entries like “Amisites uninstall” and other applications you didn’t install. You can sort by installed date to find the most recent application.
  3. Select the application you want to remove and then click Uninstall. Repeat this process for all the applications you want to remove.
  4. Reset your browser as described in the second method and then reboot your PC.
