Error code 0x80070273 is a fairly common error for Windows 10 Mobile insiders. The error code doesn’t really tell what the problem is, but will appear when you want to update to a newer build. Users who wanted to go from build 15031 to build 15043 were particularly affected by the error.
What happens is that you select the ring you need (usually the Fast ring), and the update appears. The update then initializes, but when the download bar appears, you will get the aforementioned error and the installation fails.
Users have attempted both soft resets, as well as hard resets with or without restoring data, and even with a different user name, but everything fails. Fortunately, however, Microsoft have the Windows Device Recovery Tool that can help you solve this issue.
NOTE: Before you begin the recovery, you should back up your phone. The recovery tool will erase all content stored on your phone, including the apps, app data, messages, call history, media files etc. Backing up your phone will give you an option to restore the backup once the recovery is done.
Use the Windows Device Recovery Tool
- First of all, you need to download the tool, and you can do that
- Head to your Downloads folder, and install the tool you just downloaded. Launch the tool once its installed.
- Use a USB cable to connect your phone to the computer. If the software fails to detect the phone, disconnect it, and choose My phone was not detected. Follow the on-screen prompts.
- Once the tool detects your phone, choose Install software. The tool will install the suitable software. You won’t be able to use the phone while it’s installing, and the installation might take a while. That mostly depends on your internet connection speed.
- Once the tool is done running, you can try updating It should work without any problems now.
