Google announced today that registration for its Google Indie Games Festival for Android is now open. The festival, which aims at highlighting the efforts of the indie developers of Android, is the first one of its kind and will help Android to succeed more.

The event is being held at the Terra Gallery in San Francisco on Saturday, September 24 and is free for everyone to join after signing up. It will also feature 30 indie games, 15 of which are yet to be released on Play Store. Attendees of the event will have a chance to be the first one to try out these new 15 games. There will be a competition among these 30 indie titles where the players will vote for their favorite game. A panel of judges, which includes some indie industry experts like Ron Carmel, co-founder of Indie Fund and Noah Falstein, co-creator of World of Goo, will also help selecting the winners of the festival. Winners won’t be going home empty-handed as there are a lot of prizes for them that includes free Google ad campaign support, tickets to Google I/O conference, Google Cloud credit, NVIDIA SHIELD Ki tablets, Android TVs and Razer Forge TV bundles.

The main purpose of the event is to promote indie developers that are good enough but don’t have the resources to push themselves and compete with the likes of Gameloft or any other big company. Due to challenging environment and limited budget, they don’t get enough exposure to attract users. Building a sustainable userbase heavily depends on the marketing and advertising campaigns with big budgets.

According to Google, over 200 indie developers applied for the event out of which 30 are shortlisted for it. Majority of these indie developers already have their apps on Play Store. Google also has a dedicated section for indie titles called Indie Corner where the best Indie games and apps are listed
