This in turn, leads to a registry error and will give you a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). This issue has plagued a number of users of Windows 10. There is a number of possible causes, but the most common ones are a driver malfunctioning, and certain software causing the issue. However, given that the issue isn’t very rare, there are a few things that you can do to solve it.

Method 1: Check your drivers

The error message itself indicates that there is an error with the drivers. It is possible that you have a malfunctioning driver, and it’s causing crashes that in turn give you a BSOD.

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, type Device Manager and open the result.driver_corrupted_expool
  2. Expand all menus and see if there is a driver with a yellow question or exclamation mark in front of its name. If there is, there’s a problem with it and it is more than likely that that is the cause of the problem.
  3. Right-click the malfunctioning driver and select Update Driver Software. Complete the wizard that automatically installs the drivers and reboot your device.
  4. If the update fails, you can try to manually find the drivers for the device. For this, you will need the Hardware ID, which is obtained by right-clicking the device, selecting Properties, and navigating to the Details tab in the window.driver_corrupted_expool1
  5. The ID you need is usually the first and longest item in the table. Copy it and do a quick online search for it. That will land you on the manufacturer’s website, where you can download the latest available driver for the device. Simply install it after downloading and everything should be back to normal.

Method 2: See if a software is causing the issue

A number of users also mentioned that certain software caused their operating system to crash. Such an example is Cisco VPN AnyConnect, but there are also other programs that cause the same issue. To solve this, note which software is running on your computer at the time of the crash. If the problem repeats itself, see if you have a match with the running software. This way you will see which particular program causes it and you can reinstall or remove it.

Method 3: Use a recovery drive

If all else fails, you can always use a recovery drive, such as a CD or USB to reset your PC. This can solve a number of issues, and the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL is one of them.

  1. Insert the recovery drive and turn on your PC.
  2. On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot
  3. Select the Reset this PC option, and choose whether you want to save or remove your user files. For this particular error, even if you keep your files, resetting your PC will solve the issue.
  4. Wait for the setup to complete, and you shouldn’t get the error again.

The methods mentioned above are all tried and tested by users, and they are all guaranteed to work. If you’re facing the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL issue, please don’t hesitate to try them as they will help you fix your problem.
